We comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
What we collect
Name, surname, ID number, cell number, email, physical address, bank account name/number, business name.
Why we collect
To verify sellers (FICA/KYC), process payments via Paystack, and prevent fraud.
Marketing emails
If you have a Sailor account we may email you about the platform, at most once a week. Sellers are reminded to add listings, renew a listing pack or send us a video to promote; everyone else is reminded they can shop from local businesses or open a store. These emails are sent under section 69 of POPIA, every one of them carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time without losing access to the platform. Unsubscribing only stops marketing email — receipts, order updates, verification notices and legal or security messages still reach you, because they are part of the service.
Store links, QR codes and videos
Every business gets a public storefront link and a QR code for that link, which the seller may share anywhere. If you send us a video for promotion, it is published on Sailor's marketing channels under the licence described in our Terms of Service. Only share video of your own products and do not include other people's personal information in it.
Where it sits
Account, listing and order data is stored on encrypted cloud infrastructure used to run Sailor, and payment data is processed by Paystack South Africa — we never store your full card details. Identity documents you upload for verification are kept in private storage and are only accessible to our verification team. We never sell your data.
Your rights
You can request access, correction, or deletion of your data, and you can opt out of marketing email from the unsubscribe link in any marketing email or from your account settings, by emailing: sailormarketplacesa@gmail.com
