These terms apply to every driver who registers for Sailor Delivery. They form part of our Terms of Service. By registering you accept them.
1. Eligibility
You must be 18 years or older, hold a valid South African ID or passport, and deliver using a motorized vehicle only — bicycles are not permitted. You must provide a licence appropriate to your vehicle (A1/A for motorbikes, Code B/8 for cars, Code 10 for bakkies and vans, Code 14 for trucks), a valid vehicle licence disc, vehicle photos, a selfie with your vehicle, and next-of-kin contact details.
2. Approval and status
New accounts start as pending approval until an administrator verifies your licence and documents. You cannot accept orders, and go online, until you are approved. Sailor may suspend an account for failed verification, unsafe or dishonest conduct, repeated failed deliveries or a suspended vehicle, and may permanently ban an account for fraud, theft or falsified documents.
3. Independent contractor
You are an independent contractor, not an employee, and you are responsible for your own insurance, fuel, vehicle maintenance, licences and tax. Sailor is not liable for accidents, theft, injury or loss arising from a delivery. You declare your vehicle roadworthy when you register and must keep it roadworthy while delivering.
4. Delivery fees and your earning
The customer pays the delivery fee in the app at checkout. Fees are calculated on the vehicle type and the distance between the seller and the buyer, with a minimum fee per vehicle. Sailor retains a commission, and the balance is your earning:
- Motorbike — Sailor retains R5
- Car — Sailor retains R8
- Bakkie — Sailor retains R20
- Van — Sailor retains R30
- Small and big trucks — Sailor retains 15% of the fee
Surge, night and rain fees may apply during high demand, and you receive 100% of those fees. Where a bulk or shared trip is used, the fee is split between the stops on that trip.
5. Wallet, 24-hour hold and withdrawals
Your earning is credited to your Sailor wallet as pending for 24 hours after the delivery is completed, and is then released as available to withdraw. You must save accurate bank or eWallet details before withdrawing.
- Minimum withdrawal is R100.
- Bank EFT withdrawals carry no fee; eWallet withdrawals carry a R10 fee.
- Withdrawals are reviewed and paid out by Sailor after approval, with the funds sent to the bank or eWallet details on your profile.
- Where a delivery is disputed, refunded or found to be fraudulent, the related earning may be reversed or withheld.
6. Double-PIN handover
Each order carries a pickup PIN for the seller and a delivery PIN for the buyer. You must enter the correct pickup PIN when you collect, and the correct delivery PIN when you hand the order over, to complete the delivery and release your earning. Three failed attempts temporarily block your account and alert support. Do not complete a delivery without the correct PIN, and do not ask a customer for cash — all payments happen in the app.
7. Trip rules
Food deliveries are limited to 4 active orders, and marketplace goods to 8 per bulk trip, and only where your vehicle can carry that order type. Food and furniture deliveries may never be mixed in one trip. Customers may pay an Express fee so that no other stops are added to their trip.
8. Conduct
- Handle goods with care, keep them secure in transit and deliver them in the condition you collected them.
- Never open, tamper with or substitute an order.
- Do not share customer addresses, phone numbers or delivery PINs with anyone else.
- Report damage, accidents, theft or a failed handover immediately through the driver app.
- Keep your profile current — including your phone number, vehicle and payout details.
9. Your information
Your ID, licence, vehicle and banking documents are stored privately and are used only to verify you, to pay you and to meet our POPIA and FICA obligations. You consent to this processing when you submit your documents. See our Privacy Policy.
10. Ending your driver account
You may stop driving at any time by going offline or asking us to close your driver profile. Deliveries already accepted must still be completed or returned. Any available wallet balance remains withdrawable once open disputes are settled.
